Brian Critchfield

CEO/Founder

I made a dramatic personal change in 2012 which set me on a new course in life. Since then I've made my personal development a high priority. Health, family, service, and self-growth are very important to me. I take integrity very seriously, so this is something I have infused into my life and my business. Being honest, doing what we say we will, and following through with our commitments is at the top of our priority list.

Fun Fact #1
I am an artist at heart. In my free time you'll find me writing/playing music, painting, creating online content, and engaging in other various creative projects!

Fun Fact #2
I love a good physical challenge! I have competed in numerous obstacle course races, marathons, and other events. In early 2024 I achieved a life-long goal of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania Africa!

Nick Flessner

General Manager

I have been working in the skilled trades and construction related fields the majority of my life. I love systems of all kinds, from heating and cooling systems that keep us comfortable to the computer systems that keep us on schedule with tasks and projects. I have a passion for improvement of our systems, as well as for self and team development. I am invested in the success of our business, as well as our customers'.

Fun Fact #1
I have 5 children from the age of 2 - 14. When I am not working, my time is spent doing sports and activities with them. I love spending time with my family.

Fun Fact #2
Since I was a young man, my favorite activities have always been extreme sports. I love activities like snowboarding, rock climbing, wake boarding, and riding dirt bikes, just to name a few. Some of the things I still aspire to try are skydiving, paragliding, and learning to fly a plane.

Merle Piers

Project Estimation & Management

My family and my career are my top priorities in life. That’s why it’s important for me to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I have a wife and 2 children. My children are boys. The oldest is a 14 year old and the youngest is a 6 month old. I also enjoy play with my 3 dogs.

Fun Fact #1
In the summer time you will find my family and I fishing,
camping, and boating. We don’t have just a favorite spot. We like to visit many different camp grounds and lakes.

Fun fact #2
Another fun fact about me is I really enjoy family fun night. Wether it’s movie night with all of us sitting around the living room. Or just playing a card or board game. It’s all a blast to me.

Ron Shufelt

Project Manager

My first job as a young man was with the housing authorities in Ohio doing maintenance and painting. My father remodeled our house and had me helping him with that project where I also learned a lot of skills. Our family always owned antique wood boats and I learned how to work with wood and rebuild old wood boats turning them into prize-winning showboats. I learned to pay attention to detail and to have a quality finish. I love my job here at better places LLC and always look forward to seeing the finished properties that we rehab.

I enjoy fishing, camping, and riding my Harley. I like to have a good time and joke around a lot. I love being able to make someone smile and laugh.

I enjoy building jewelry boxes and wood crafts in my basement.

I'm a mother first and business runner as a close second! Giving my children a good life and creating opportunities for my family is very important to me. Helping start and run a business has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life.

Fun Fact #1
I love to travel, and see live music. I've traveled all over to see my favorite band "The Avett Brothers" over 15 times! I traveled around the Yucatan Peninsula in 2022 and did a tour of the ancient Mayan ruins. It was a life changing bucket list item!

I've raised backyard chickens for years now. And I recently moved to a 10 acre farm where we plan to do some farmsteading!
